Course Content

This course is divided into two key modules — Knowledge and Practical Skills:

Knowledge Module (Theory)


  • Role of a first aider & legal/ethical considerations
  • Understanding the ABCs: Airway, Breathing, Circulation
  • Basic human anatomy relevant to first aid
  • Recognising and responding to common emergencies
  • Communication and incident reporting

Practical Module

  • Scene safety and primary assessment
  • Hands-on CPR (infant, child, adult)
  • Choking rescue techniques
  • Bleeding control and shock management
  • Immobilisation of fractures and sprains
  • Treating burns, bites, stings, and environmental injuries

Training Schedule

Day 1 - Knowledge & Core Skills-Self Paced Learning

  • Introduction & course briefing
  • Legal and ethical role of a first aider
  • Scene safety and assessment
  • Primary survey (ABCs) CPR for infants, children, and adults
  • Choking management

Day 2 – Practical Application & Assessment

  • Bleeding control and shock management
  • Treating burns, bites, stings, and environmental injuries
  • Fracture and sprain immobilisation
  • Safe EMS handover and record keeping
  • Written and practical assessments

Training Days Schedule:

  • Location: Care College, 155 Loop Street, Cape Town
  • Days: Weekdays (Excluding Friday's). The booking link will be shared with you, once you purchase the course to book your slot.
  • Time: 09:00am – 14:00pm

Important to note:
  • Day 1 will be completed online via our digital platform.
  • Day 2 must be attended in person at our Care College campus for the practical session and official First Aid sign-off.

Assessment & Completion

To successfully complete the course, learners must pass both a written and practical assessment. Those found competent will receive a QCTO-accredited First Aid Level NQF 2 certificate (SAQA ID: SP-230801), valid for 3 years. This nationally recognised qualification meets South Africa’s OHS Act requirements for workplace first aiders.
Foreign Nationals

Due to QCTO accreditation requirements, foreign participants must provide a valid passport and proof of legal status in South Africa in order to receive certification.
