The course covers child development, educational theory, classroom management, health and safety practices, curriculum planning, child psychology, and effective communication with children and families. Our aim is to provide a well-rounded understanding of early childhood education.

To be deemed competent, you must complete a total of 1,310 notional hours, which are divided into the following:

Knowledge Modules: 430 hours (3 months)
Practical Modules: 430 hours (3 months)
Workplace Modules: 450 hours, to be completed over a 4-month period at your designated workplace. Workplace placement will begin in the 4th month of your studies. This placement is full-time and unpaid, and you are expected to treat it with the same dedication and commitment as you would a job.

We allocate an additional 2 months to help you prepare for the EISA exam. Please note that the EISA exam is held twice a year, in February and October. Depending on when you start your course, you will be scheduled to sit for the exam in the corresponding month.

How does this course prepare me for working with children?

The course blends theory with practical experience, equipping you with knowledge of child development stages, behavior management techniques, and strategies for creating engaging and supportive learning environments. You’ll also gain hands-on experience during your practicum placements.

Are there any practical or hands-on components as part of the training?

Yes, practical experience is a key component of the course. Students will engage in a practicum placement at an ECD workplace where they will be guided and assessed by experienced mentors.

How do I find an ECD workplace for my practical training?

Through our network, we will place you with a workplace partner to complete your required workplace hours. We aim to match you with a partner located as close as possible to your area.

What types of assessments will I need to complete during the course?

Assessments include assignments, projects, practical observations, tests, and the EISA (External Integrated Summative Assessment) exam. These ensure you demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and readiness to work in the ECD field.

What is the EISA exam?

The EISA exam is administered as a final evaluation of your competencies. It tests both theoretical knowledge and practical application. Passing requires a strong understanding of the course material and proficiency in applying ECD principles in real settings.

What happens if I fail the EISA exam?

If you do not pass, you’ll have the opportunity for remedial support and, a chance to retake the assessment. We’re here to help ensure you succeed.

Can I study part-time or online, or is it only offered as a full-time course?

You can study through a flexible blended learning model, which combines online content delivery with either in-person or virtual class interactions, allowing you to tailor your learning experience to fit your schedule and preferences. This approach ensures a comprehensive and engaging learning journey.

What are the expectations for attendance and participation in classes?

Active participation and consistent attendance are required, whether online, virtual, or in-person, to ensure effective learning. A minimum of 80% attendance is required to be deemed competent in the full qualification.

Is this qualification recognized nationally and internationally?

Yes, this qualification is nationally recognized and meets the standards set by relevant educational authorities. It is also aligned with the frameworks in Kenya and the United Kingdom, providing opportunities for international placements and career mobility.

Who accredits this program, and what level is it on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)?

Will I receive a formal certificate upon completion?

Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendence through CareChamp College and your official qualification certificate will be received by QCTO 3 months after completing your EISA.

Are there any additional costs for materials, books, or exams?

There are no additional costs for textbooks, practical materials, and exams as this is included in cost.

What are the entry requirements for this qualification?

National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 3 (grade 11), or any other NQF Level 3 qualification.

Is there a specific code of conduct or behavior policy for students?

Yes, all students must adhere to our code of conduct, which emphasizes professionalism, respect, and ethical behavior. Please read through our code of conduct here.

Transportation: If you choose the face-to-face approach, you will be required to attend class three days a week for practical exposure. For your workplace modules, travel may be necessary; however, we will strive to place you at an ECD center within close proximity. Additionally, some ECD centers may offer a small stipend to help with travel expenses.

First Aid Training – R900
This is a mandatory requirement for the workplace. If you do not currently hold a valid First Aid certificate, you will need to complete this training. The R900 fee covers the training and certification, ensuring you meet necessary workplace safety standards and are prepared for emergency situations. Investing in this certification is an important step for your professional readiness and contributes to overall workplace safety.

She holds a National N Diploma (N6) obtained in 2014 and an NQF Level 5 ECD qualification completed in 2023. Her experience includes 3 years as a Grade R teacher, 4 years in registered ECD center's, and 9 months as a teacher’s assistant, totaling over 7 years of formal ECD experience. She also spent 4 years providing private care, supporting children’s early learning and development in home-based environments.
